My Swedish language journey in 'Komvux' has ended!
Spring is here! And my svenska som andraspråk (Sva) journey has also ended. I have been updating my progress here.
Over the last 2.5 years, I have been engaged in intensive Swedish study. The study is free of charge and takes place through a “Komvux” (short for kommunal vuxenutbildning, literally “municipal adult education”). More information about this course is on the Skolverket website.
I am thankful and grateful to everyone who has made this achievement possible.
Here are some quick “Fun Facts” about my two-year Swedish language journey over almost three years living in Sweden.
May 2024: Completed SVA3 (Svenska som andraspråk 3).
March 2024: Completed SVA2 (Svenska som andraspråk 2).
December 2023: Completed SVA1 (Svenska som andraspråk 1).
Summer/Autumn 2023: Took a 6-month paus (break).
March 2023: Completed the basic “Swedish as a second language” course (in Swedish: grundläggande svenska som andraspråk / Sva grund).
April 2022: Completed SFI (Svenska för invandrare).
November 2021: I started my Swedish language journey by going to SFI (Svenska för invandrare).
What happens after this? I will, of course, continue the journey on my own. The only difference—and it’s positive—is that instead of reading for schoolwork, I can now read Swedish books for fun. Instead of writing for assignments, tests, and exams, I can now write for fun. The beauty of this training I got from such formal and grueling tasks is that it helped me form the habit of thinking through my content. I also loved the prompts and questions that guided the written assignments.
For now, I will enjoy my newfound freedom (from school, assignments, and exams) and bask in the spring (pollen) and sunshine!
