Back cover synopsis: Charlie Bucket has won Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and is on his way to take possession of it. In a great glass elevator! But when the elevator makes a fearful whooshing noise, Charlie and his family finds themselves in splendid orbit around the Earth. A daring adventure has begun, with the one and only Mr Willy Wonka leading the way.

I’ve completed the Roald Dahl Reading Marathon (my own reading challenge). It’s been quite intense reading all the five books and reviewing them at the same time in just two days. I was knackered at the end of it but totally enjoyed the experience.

Out of the five books, Matilda is my favourite. Unfortunately, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is my least favourite. They’re all fun, though. My favourite cover is James and the Giant Peach. There is a common theme running in most of them featuring bullies and the protagonists being orphans. I’d probably do a Nora Roberts trilogy marathon next.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl is the last book I read for the marathon. The story here continues with the adventures of Charlie Bucket, his family and Mr Willy Wonka—all eight of them shooting into the sky in a glass elevator. And then things get out of control. The glass elevator overshoots and goes into orbit!

The mad adventure begins. Here you’ll get a space hotel, the American President, the Vermicious Knids (a nasty looking enormous slimy wrinkled greenish-brown egg with eyes), and a whole lot more. It IS truly nonsensical.

I am sorry to say I did not enjoy this as much as all the other four in the reading marathon. I guess I could not stomach too much nonsense all at one go. Having said that, this is still a fun book.
