More on Duolingo

I have been very busy in the last two weeks defending my first position in Duolingo and climbing up the final League: Diamond.

My previous post speaks of my history (when I got started) with the little green owl and a brief status update. In this one, as at today, I have accumulated a total of 90,148 XP (short for “Experience Points”). My top five most active languages in the order of the highest to the lowest XP are Norwegian (41.9K XP), Swedish (19.1K XP), Danish (12.2K XP), Spanish, and Italian.

This week will be a grand finale for me. My mission is to finish #1 in the Diamond League. Two guys have been hot on my trail and I can see that they mean business. Which means I will have to work harder to defend my position and I’m totally fine with that. I’m thrilled, in fact!

There are 10 leagues in Duolingo: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Amethyst, Pearl, Obsidian, and Diamond. I’ve just added two more achievement screenshots below for Obsidian and Diamond.

I mentioned in my previous post that Duolingo is a great app to ensure I get daily exposure and practice in addition to the serious study I do with my books. It’s a wonderful way to gamify language learning. It’s also a great tool to experiment with the languages I’m interested in, and perfect for comparing two similar languages such as Swedish/Norwegian and Italian/Spanish. Good news: It has recently launched Finnish.

I recommend the app.
