White Space
I enjoy reading Dorie Clark—be it her articles or books—and her podcasts and interviews are awesome too. A few days ago I started reading her latest book, The Long Game.
Part one of the book stood out to me: white space, which is essentially about carving out time for opportunity. Can we carve out 20% of our time working on what we think will benefit us most? The 20% concept was taken from Google where their employees are empowered to be more creative and innovative. Dorie says:
There’s something compelling about the idea of cordoning off time to experiment and see where your passions take you. […]
Disambiguate
I came across the word disambiguate while studying for the Coursera Technical Writing course. This topic piqued my interest and has become one of my passion (or curiosity) projects.
When course instructor Elena Bazanova mentioned “disambiguating” by “studying complicated things and then explaining them clearly,” that struck a chord with me. […]
Drawing Notebook Maps—The Austin Kleon Way
Today I want to share something wonderfully weird and interesting (as always!) by Austin Kleon—how to make a map of your mind. […]
It’s All in the Details
I’ve been following Bill Shander’s Data Visualization: A Lesson and Listen Series on LinkedIn Learning, and it’s one of my favorite courses on the platform for data visualization.
In this post, I want to highlight one simple process Shander mentioned that could help make big decisions about designing a data visualization: W-A-R-T. […]
Month 1 in Sweden: My shipment has arrived!
After carefully curating and donating hundreds of my books to the National Library in Singapore, I was left with 18 boxes that eventually left on a cargo ship to sail across the ocean to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In those 18 boxes were almost 1,000 books and magazines, including stationery and art supplies.
From Rotterdam, they made their way to Huskvarna, Sweden, and arrived safely on 16 September on a drizzling Thursday night, exactly one month after departing from Singapore. It was 20:12 when I received the text message from Stefan from Drent informing they’re here. […]
Month 1 in Sweden
Today on 16 September is exactly a month after I had left Singapore with Mister Pops the cat and arrived in Sweden—in Huskvarna to be exact that is about 1.5 hours’ drive from Gothenburg. It’s wonderful to be reunited with Mister Bear!
Planning the move and executing it from start to finish had been a challenging but great experience. In addition to putting my administration and project management skills to good use (which is my bread and butter!), I have also learned many new things. […]
Will you choose to matter?
Most of us are already successful, but according to Seth Godin that is not the question. The question is, will you choose to matter?
I have a few ideas swimming in my head. And this has to do with a major life event I’m about to embark on in August this year.
Be Present
Rolf Dobelli said: Our brains cope automatically with all three layers of time—past, present and future. The issue is which one we concentrate on.

What I have learned from Dobelli is that it’s not about avoiding making long-term plans, but once they are in place to focus wholly on the now. Not ruminating about the past, worrying or wondering about the future, but living in the present.
