The Imperfect Enjoyment

I had the privilege of hosting author Dewan Gibson, an adjunct faculty member at San Diego State University and author of The Imperfect Enjoyment on my blog a few days ago. He wrote about Six Tips to Survive an Interracial Relationship—do check it out.

THE IMPERFECT ENJOYMENT by Dewan Gibson is honest and witty. It is interesting to read what goes on in a guy’s mind and the stuff he did or will do in the quest for a relationship. I must admit I do not usually read materials like this but I got curious and had to know—first hand—the male mind by reading this memoir.

The Reader

THE READER by Bernhard Schlink (translated from the German by Carol Brown Janeway) is written in three parts and in the first-person voice of the 15-year-old Michael Berg. I could not put it down the moment I picked it up. The New York Times says that it is “arresting, philosophically elegant, morally complex...” Focus Munich says that it is “breathtaking” and Los Angeles Times says this: “From the first page, THE READER ensnares both heart and mind.” How true. And oh, I forgot to mention that Elle says this: “Haunting... Memorable... with small moments of highly charged eroticism.”

Vision in White (Book One in the Bride Quartet)

VISION IN WHITE by Nora Roberts is the first book in the Bride Quartet. Here we meet childhood friends Parker, Emma, Laurel, and Mac, and their love stories. Together, they are the co-owners of Vows, one of Connecticut’s well known wedding planning companies.

Book 1 begins with the story of Mackensie “Mac” Elliot, the lady behind the camera. Her character resonates with me because I’m familiar with the exhilarating feeling of getting behind the camera shooting. [...]

Mac does not believe in happily-ever-afters because she sees the truth in her own family—until Carter Maguire shows up in her life, that is.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator

CHARLIE AND THE GREAT GLASS ELEVATOR by Roald Dahl is the last book I read for the marathon. The story here continues with the adventures of Charlie Bucket, his family and Mr Willy Wonka—all eight of them shooting into the sky in a glass elevator. And then things get out of control. The glass elevator overshoots and goes into orbit!

The Witches

THE WITCHES by Roald Dahl is the fourth book I have completed for the Roald Dahl Reading Marathon.

“She” (in the quote above) is the Grand High Witch and along with many other witches, they are having an annual meeting at the same hotel where Boy (we do not know his name) and his grandmother is having a holiday. Boy stumbles into this meeting by accident when he is looking for a quiet spot to train his two pet mice. The meeting room was vacant at first, but soon the participants (a group of ladies) enter. Slowly he realizes that these women are, in fact, witches!

Matilda

MATILDA is the third book I have completed for the Roald Dahl Reading Marathon and it’s my favourite! I started reading it at 11 PM (Saturday) and finished at 1.18 AM (Sunday). Snuggled up in my reading chair, I did feel a little sleepy and feared I might not be able to finish the book but the moment I got started, I knew completing the book would be a breeze. It is quite impossible to resist a book that begins with the chapter “The Reader of Books”… […]

The BFG

THE BFG is the second book I completed for the Roald Dahl Reading Marathon. I started reading THE BFG in the late afternoon, managed to throw in an afternoon nap, and completed it just in time before dinner.

The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) is indeed a special giant. It’s another fun book and an imaginative one to boot. On the cover with the BFG is little Sophie who was kidsnatched out of her bedroom into Giantland. So this time I’m off on another fantastical journey that involves even the Queen of England! […]
