SVA3: The Final Stage in My Komvux Swedish Language Journey

I applied to the Jönköpings kommun at the end of January (advanced planning again!) to continue to study Swedish at level SVA3. At this time, my SVA2 is still ongoing and expected to be completed in the first week of March. This is free of charge and takes place through a “Komvux” (short for kommunal vuxenutbildning, literally “municipal adult education”). More information about this course is on the Skolverket website.

I received a placement confirmation from the Kommun on 4 March and then a notification, one week later, from the school to begin on Monday, 18 March 2024. Like in the previous post, I have selected to study “Flex,” which means distance learning, and I go to school only when I am required to complete assignments or sit for tests. More information here (in Swedish) about the study forms for those studying gymnasiekurser (high school courses) within adult education.

With SVA2 now out of the way, in the next 2.5 months (March 2024 to May 2024), I aim to complete Svenska som andraspråk 3 (SVA3).

Here are some quick “Fun Facts” about my Swedish language journey—two years (soon-to-be three in August) after moving to Sweden!

  • March 2024: Completed SVA2 (Svenska som andraspråk 2).

  • December 2023: Completed SVA1 (Svenska som andraspråk 1).

  • Summer/Autumn 2023: Took a 6-month paus (break).

  • March 2023: Completed the basic “Swedish as a second language” course (in Swedish: grundläggande svenska som andraspråk / Sva grund).

  • April 2022: Completed SFI (Svenska för invandrare).

  • November 2021: Started my Swedish language journey by going to SFI (Svenska för invandrare).
