Synopsis: IN THE TOWN OF HAWKINS HOLLOW, IT'S CALLED THE SEVEN. Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys—Caleb, Fox, and Gage—went on a camping trip to the Pagan Stone. And twenty-one years later, it will end in a showdown between evil and the boys who have become men—and the women who love them...

Blood Brothers by Nora Roberts (NR) is the first book of the Sign of Seven Trilogy. I’ve been looking forward to her latest work and this is my wish come true. Being able to finally read her again is satisfying. I’ve read four of her trilogies with short intervals in between, I have to say this is not her best work but then it’s too early to tell. Blood Brothers is still a good read but I’m not breaking out in songs over this one.

Usually, each book in the NR trilogies is filled with romance that makes you beam and radiate happiness. This one, though, has less of that. Instead, it focuses more on the background of evil that has befallen Hawkins Hollow where all hell breaks loose every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month. All because innocently on their tenth birthday, Caleb, Fox, and Gage cut their wrist, mixed their blood, and made an oath at the Pagan Stone. With that, they have unleashed something evil as well as good.

Circumstances also bring three women together: Quinn, Layla, and Cybil. Together they form an important team, with absolute determination to end the recurring problem once and for all. There are lots of brainstorming and research work in trying to trace back the genealogies, looking for gaps or missing links, finding patterns, etc. The first book romantically links Caleb and Quinn together. Their romance sounds a little harried but then again, Quinn is a go-getter, the cut-to-the-chase sort of girl, so that probably sets the tone. I believe their relationship will be further developed in Book 2. Right now, it seems NR has taken a slightly different approach.

Funny dialogues are part and parcel of NR’s work, so expect to see quite a lot of that. For now, it’s still too early to tell if the story will rock my world, but I’m placing my hope in Book 2, The Hollow (scheduled to be released in May 2008) and Book 3, The Pagan Stone (scheduled to be released in December 2008). It’s a long wait but I’m patient…

Blood Brothers is a joint-reading with Melody and Julia. Hey ladies: I’m already looking forward to reading the rest of trilogy with you. Thank you for reading with me!
