Bookrea 2023: nya böcker!
Two weeks ago I wrote about Sweden’s book sale and all my purchases have arrived! The first package from Bokus arrived on Tuesday, 21 February. Then Amazon on Wednesday, 22 February. And finally, Adlibris and Bokus—again, both on Friday, 24 February.
I finally bought Samlade sagor by Maria Nilsson Thore (see previous blog post here). That’s the book that Mister Pops is ‘perching’ on in one of the pics above. I love how the author’s eyes are looking up at him…
You may have also spotted Coraline by Neil Gaiman in the pile above (Amazon’s book sale). Coraline is one of my favorite Gaiman books and I wrote a post about it in 2008. Owning a Swedish edition makes me happy and I can’t wait to read it—aloud—to Mister Pops (or even make a post for the Read-aloud Friday right here on my blog **GRIN**).
Another Neil Gaiman book is Nordiska myter (original English edition: Norse Mythology). This Swedish hardcover edition (Bokus’ book sale) is a thing of beauty and it’s only SEK79!
There are two reportage books in the pile, namely, Svensk skola AB by Peter Letmark and Äkta nyheter by Erik Fichtelius. You may be wondering if I’m really able to comprehend these books, and my answer is… YES. I bought them out of interest for journalism and also for deepening what I’ve learned in my Swedish komvux when we learned about the various types of text, of which, one of them is reportage. If I need to look up new words (this is also the point of reading such books), I have a great reason to use my favorite big, red book: Natur och Kulturs STORA SVENSKA ORDBOK.
The other books are on writing, travel, and language. All I can say is my current bookshelves are ‘groaning’ because of the new arrivals. This definitely tests my creativity and resourcefulness in fitting everything in, but I’m happy that my personal library in Sweden has grown just a wee bit more.
