Ink Flamingos by Karen E. Olson is the fourth and last book in the A Tattoo Shop Mystery series. The novel has all the elements I loved: tattoos, a strong, spunky female character, blogging, and a hint of romance between the tattooists amid the sleuthing. Brett Kavanaugh—a tattoo artist and owner of The Painted Lady—is that strong and spunky female character.

Author Karen E. Olson did a fabulous job! I’m sorry it took me so long to tell you about the good stuff Brett and the gang are up to, but it’s never too late.

In this one, in addition to the mysterious death-by-tattoo-gone-wrong of a female lead singer of a hot pop band, there is also a very important message about what the cyber world can do to a person’s sanity. Brett suddenly appears all over the Internet in a blog that isn’t hers, with her pictures and real-time reporting of her comings and goings. Really scary. She is being impersonated and implicated in the crime.

Now, imagine yourself in her position. I would definitely not be thrilled to have my privacy breached that way. And not only that, but to live in fear of being followed, photographed and posted online. I also like the emotional development between Brett and Jeff Coleman, who is a competitor in the business. I’m so glad Karen decided to play it up more in the last book without being as explicit as most romance novels tend to be.

To Karen: Thank you for being such a wonderful author and friend. I have enjoyed the series very much, and as a fan of tattoos, the four books mean a lot to me. Also, being in the “Acknowledgements” section of the third book really made my day!

Here are the gorgeous covers of all four books in the A Tattoo Shop Mystery series. Aren’t they beautiful?
