Tiny Beautiful Things

I would like to thank Isaiah Lim, my good friend and colleague, for recommending this book.

Tiny Beautiful Things is unputdownable. It teared me up AND made me laugh all at the same time. It’s a book that I couldn’t stop reading.

Isaiah said drop everything and read this book, which I did (but not before I finished the last few pages of The Song of Achilles because Achilles and Patroclus, too, was unputdownable.)

I’ve loved Cheryl Strayed's Wild but I love Tiny Beautiful Things even more. Her advice in this book is funny but sound and extraordinary. She offered counsel to complex issues in a gorgeous and brilliant manner straight from the heart.

I recommend it!

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

"Within the chaos of our shame and disappointment and rage there is meaning, and within that meaning is the possibility of rescue."

"That place of true healing is a fierce place. It's a giant place. It's a place of monstrous beauty and endless dark and glimmering light. And you have to work really, really, really hard to get there, but you can do it."

"You can't cry it away or eat it away or starve it away or walk it away or punch it away or even therapy it away. It's just there, and you will have to survive it. You have to endure it. You have to live through it and love it and move on and be better for it and run as far as you can in the direction of your best and happiest dreams across the bridge that was built by your own desire to heal."
