Semla

Bear Mom came to visit yesterday (Tuesday) and brought a pair of this delicious-looking cream roll. I wasn’t catching the name of this delightful noms when she mentioned it, but when I conferred with Mister Bear later the same evening, he said it’s called semla. Yes, I remember hearing Bear Mom say something like that …

A delicious Swedish semla

Sweden appears to have added cream and almond paste to the mix. The folks here are also said to have started eating semla every Tuesday between Shrove Tuesday (on 1 March this year) and Easter. Wikipedia has the full story here.

This is really interesting to me. I’m not sure if I’d be eating a lot of semlor (plural for semla) throughout January and February, but Bear Mom is absolutely wonderful with tradition and hospitality, and I’m also learning so much from her.
