My heartfelt thanks to a very dear friend, Maristella Tagliaferro, for bringing Sandokan to my attention. The legendary author Emilio Salgari never set foot in Malaysia, but he’s written an awesome series about the fictional character Sandokan through sheer research that became very famous in Italy.

I also found out that a translation of the book has been done supposedly from English to Malay and not from its original language (Italian). It was launched on 26 October 2010, a collaboration between Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia (ITBM) and Ambassador of Italy in Kuala Lumpur.

I've placed an order for the Malay edition from ITBM and hope to receive it soon!
