12 Districts, 12 boys, 12 girls: Each district is to provide 1 boy and 1 girl to be entered as tributes into the Hunger Games in the Capitol, Panem. Conducted annually to punish citizens for an earlier rebellion, it also serves as a reminder. District 12’s Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take over her younger sister’s place. Peeta Mellark goes with her. Together they are to fight to death and ultimately only one will be the winner. I don’t like the idea of children being tossed into such a deadly and cruel “game,” but the book kept me in suspense throughout.
