I stumbled upon this series by accident when I was browsing for new books to borrow on the National Library Board (NLB) website. The Blur Sotong is the first book I read although it’s the third book in the series. I then borrowed the other two books to follow Ang Ku Kueh Girl’s adventures. This is how the story begins…
There is a day that Ang Ku Kueh Girl is feeling down and sad, and it’s because of something that happened at school. So, what has happened at school? She goes to the Dragon Playground and cries her heart out and falls asleep. From this point on, Ang Ku Kueh Girl’s life becomes really interesting.
As the story continues, she sees many balloons and egg creatures! For us locals, we will immediately be able to relate to red egg, tea egg, century egg, salted egg, and Easter egg! The illustration of the eggs is so cute.
Do you know what ang ku kueh is and the significance of red egg? At the end of the story, you’ll be given a yummy treat and not only that, it carries the meaning of good fortune, the beginning of life and longevity!
