THE MISSING INK by Karen E. Olson is the first book in the A Tattoo Shop Mystery series. The protagonist, Brett Kavanaugh, is a female tattooist who owns her own tattoo shop, The Painted Lady. I like her right from the start. She is a fun person surrounded by good friends who are also her shop employees. She is different from Annie Seymour in the Annie Seymour Mysteries series, and so intrigued am I by her that I took the opportunity to know more about Brett in my interview with Karen.

I’m thrilled to have Karen E. Olson making a guest appearance here in Malaysia. Karen is the author of the new A Tattoo Shop Mystery series and her latest book, THE MISSING INK, in the series will be released tomorrow! She is also the author of the Annie Seymour Mystery series.

I’ve read THE MISSING INK and boy, I loved it! I’m glad for the opportunity to interview Karen so that she can tell us more about her newest protagonist, Brett Kavanaugh. Brett is a tattooist and a tattoo shop owner.

FIREPROOF is a novelization by Eric Wilson of the screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. It’s an amazing faith-based story with inspiring characters and a challenging message. I had the privilege of hosting author Dewan Gibson, an adjunct faculty member at San Diego State University and author of The Imperfect Enjoyment on my blog a few days ago. He wrote about Six Tips to Survive an Interracial Relationship—do check it out.

THE IMPERFECT ENJOYMENT by Dewan Gibson is honest and witty. It is interesting to read what goes on in a guy’s mind and the stuff he did or will do in the quest for a relationship. I must admit I do not usually read materials like this but I got curious and had to know—first hand—the male mind by reading this memoir.

I thought to feature an excerpt from THE IMPERFECT EXCERPT, but since Alice already posted a review (Me: Actually, Dewan, I decided to post the review only this weekend so that my review will not “compete” with your post, but readers can still check out the excerpts at your website!) I figured that would be a Kanye West like overkill of shameless self-promotion. Instead I’m sending a short article related to one of the main themes in THE IMPERFECT ENJOYMENT, interracial relationships. Perhaps those of you that have dated outside your ethnic group will find this interesting, or maybe you’ll end up sending Alice a message that reads “What the hell where you thinking when you agreed to feature this weirdo on your site!”

THE READER by Bernhard Schlink (translated from the German by Carol Brown Janeway) is written in three parts and in the first-person voice of the 15-year-old Michael Berg. I could not put it down the moment I picked it up. The New York Times says that it is “arresting, philosophically elegant, morally complex...” Focus Munich says that it is “breathtaking” and Los Angeles Times says this: “From the first page, THE READER ensnares both heart and mind.” How true.
