Interview with Author Joan Hon
Today, I have the great honor of hosting an interview with Joan Hon, a remarkable author and academician. Besides writing books, she also taught Physics to Junior College students and mentored Olympiad students in one of Singapore’s top Junior Colleges.
The Penang-born Singaporean author, already in her sixties, was here in Penang on Tuesday, October 12 to share about her journey as an author. The engaging Book Talk was held at Precious Ones Collections. Now she shares more on my blog! She wrote a science-fiction romance STAR SAPPHIRE (1985) under the pseudonym Han May, which won a High Commendation Award from the Book Development Council of Singapore in 1986, the same year she was awarded a Commendation prize for her book RELATIVELY SPEAKING on her father and childhood memories in Penang. Please join me in welcoming Joan Hon!
Joan Hon Book Talk
I’ll be taking a day off from work on 12 October to attend a book talk and meet with author Joan Hon. Such bookish events are rare in my part of the world (Malaysia), so when Jo Lau contacted me about the author, I was excited! The Internet brought Jo and I together in July this year in a blog event. She is a Singaporean living in Penang with her husband. Jo told me she found me through my blog and I’m really glad!
Here’s more on the bookish event: […]
My Move to Penang
I’m moving to Penang! Very busy days ahead and I’ve started packing. I’ll be joining a new company for a new and expanded role (regional platform manager) to be based at the client Intel. The main thing on my list is finding an apartment to rent […]
A Third Invitation to Speak
I have received yet another invitation to speak in an upcoming Executive PA Forum organized by VMAC in March 2010!
This will be my third speaking gig and even so I’m still feeling a bit anxious. My first was the Marcus Evans Executive PA Conference in Kuala Lumpur and the second was the ABF 8th Executive Secretaries and PAs Conference in Singapore—both in 2009.
The VMAC Executive PA Forum will be held on 11 and 12 March. I will be speaking on the first day on the topic Executing Excellent Non Verbal and Verbal Communication Skills to Avoid Miscommunication.
Special Appearance: Author Dewan Gibson on “Six Tips to Survive an Interracial Relationship”
I thought to feature an excerpt from THE IMPERFECT EXCERPT, but since Alice already posted a review (Me: Actually, Dewan, I decided to post the review only this weekend so that my review will not “compete” with your post, but readers can still check out the excerpts at your website!) I figured that would be a Kanye West like overkill of shameless self-promotion. Instead I’m sending a short article related to one of the main themes in THE IMPERFECT ENJOYMENT, interracial relationships. Perhaps those of you that have dated outside your ethnic group will find this interesting, or maybe you’ll end up sending Alice a message that reads “What the hell where you thinking when you agreed to feature this weirdo on your site!”
Hope you enjoy: SIX TIPS TO SURVIVE AN INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIP […]
Another Invitation to Speak
I have great news! I have received yet another invitation to speak in a conference and this time in Singapore. The other conference will be in March in Kuala Lumpur. I’m pleasantly surprised I'll be speaking in two conferences in 2009! This second one is organized by Asia Business Forum […]
An Invitation to Speak
A global conference organizer contacted me today inviting me to speak in their upcoming Executive PA Conference in March 2009. What an honor! And a pleasant surprise. Because they approached me personally, I've also cleared this with my boss and HR, so I'm good to go!
I'm excited and anxious at the same time. This will be my first time speaking […]
MY FM 10th Anniversary Concert (Part 1)
I was away on Saturday to shoot and enjoy the MY FM 10th Anniversary Concert at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands. Fellow blogger, Andrew Wong has invited me and two other bloggers, KY and Lorna to join in the fun.
It was a grand event with performance by famous celebrities and appearance by MY FM DJs. The theme of the night was Revolutionize Cosmos and the presenters were dressed as the game’s characters.
